It was the worst kept secret in theatre since Lucie Jones was cast in Waitress but we have now finally got confirmation that Pretty Woman will be moving home when it returns to the West End.
Having opened at the Piccadilly Theatre early in 2020 before closing after only a matter of weeks, the show will now move down the road to the Savoy Theatre. It is due to open on Thursday 8th July though this will be if Government guidelines allow them to do so, and is due to run until June 2022 with bookings available until December 2021 for the time being.
Producer Paula Wagner said: "Our London production of Pretty Woman: The Musical had just opened when the world changed and our cherished theatres were forced to close due to the pandemic. When we opened in the West End a year ago we had broken advance box-office records at the Piccadilly and were playing to sold out houses.
"With so many ticket holders eager to see this show about love and resilience, we knew we would bring back Pretty Woman when the time was safe and right. With the move to our new home, the Savoy Theatre, we are able to return to share our joy with many more people. We look forward to everyone being together soon and giving our audiences the chance to come and enjoy the ultimate fun night out we all deserve right now."
Pretty Woman was always due to have a limited run at the Piccadilly Theatre, due to Moulin Rouge planning to move in there from late 2020. That show is still planned to open, a year later, in Autumn 2021 though no exact date has been announced as yet - expect that fairly imminently now. This news means that both shows can now co-exist and run at the same time, rather than Pretty Woman closing too soon.
The Savoy was due to host Sunday In The Park With George followed by The Boy In The Dress. It is unclear if the latter will open at that venue in 2022 or move somewhere else.
Pretty Woman stars Aimie Atkinson as Vivian Ward and Danny Mac as Edward Lewis along with a cast of Rachael Wooding, Bob Harms, Neil McDermott and Mark Holden.
